Taye Atske Selassie Amde became President of Ethiopia on 7 October 2024, succeeding Sahle-Work Zewde. A career diplomat, he earlier served as ambassador to Egypt, Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and is considered an ally of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
