Theresa Mary May, born October 1, 1956, in Eastbourne, Sussex, served as Conservative Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from July 2016 to July 2019, succeeding David Cameron after the Brexit referendum. Her government triggered Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union in March 2017 to begin the formal process of withdrawal, but her negotiated withdrawal agreement was rejected by the House of Commons three times. She resigned in June 2019, having been unable to deliver Britain's exit from the European Union on her own terms.
