Tupou VI, born July 12, 1959, has served as King of Tonga since March 18, 2012, acceding to the throne on the death of his elder brother, George Tupou V, who left no legitimate issue. He was the youngest child of King Taufaahau Tupou IV and became heir presumptive once his brother took the throne; his coronation took place on July 4, 2015, in Nukualofa. Before becoming king he served as Prime Minister of Tonga from 2000 to 2006 and held diplomatic posts including High Commissioner to Australia and Ambassador to Japan. Tonga's Prime Minister, Fatafehi Fakafanua, was minted separately by an earlier wave as the country's head-of-government office.
