Yamandu Ramon Antonio Orsi Martinez, born June 13, 1967, in rural Canelones Department to working-class parents, has served as the 43rd President of Uruguay since March 1, 2025. A former history teacher trained at the Instituto de Profesores Artigas, he represents the Movement of Popular Participation, the largest faction within the leftist Broad Front coalition, and served two terms as Intendant of Canelones Department, from 2015 to 2020 and again from 2020 to 2024. As the Broad Front's presidential candidate he took roughly 43 to 44 percent in the October 2024 first round, then defeated Alvaro Delgado of the Coalicion Multicolor in the November 24 runoff; his running mate, Carolina Cosse, became vice president alongside him.
