Workers' Party of Korea

Political Parties and Party Coalitions

The Workers' Party of Korea, listed in the Factbook archive as the Korean Workers' Party and abbreviated KWP, is the ruling party of North Korea, which the archive classifies as a dictatorship and single-party communist state. The archive names it the major party and says it controls the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, known as Chongryon, as well as the minor Chondoist Chongu Party and Social Democratic Party. It adds that the Supreme People's Assembly, with 687 directly elected seats, functions as a rubberstamp legislature and that the Korean Workers' Party selects all candidates.
