Systems of Government

The named systems and typologies of government this atlas recognizes: Absolute Monarchy, Confederation, Constitutional Monarchy, Direct Democracy, Federal System, Military Dictatorship, One-Party State, Ottoman Millet System, Parliamentary Democracy, Presidential System, Semi-Presidential System, Theocracy and Unitary State. This category is deliberately NOT broken into subcategories: each of these thirteen terms is a cross-cutting typology concept describing one axis of a government (who leads the executive, how power is distributed territorially, or the basis of legitimacy) rather than a member of a single browsable set, so a real government is properly described by several of these terms at once rather than filed under exactly one. At thirteen entities this category is also well below the size that would need subcategorizing. The government entities above draw their SubLabel classification from a consolidation of this same typology; see the government category's own description.
