Sanctions on Russia

Sanctions on Russia are the economic and diplomatic measures other states have imposed on the Russian government, its officials and its economy, principally in response to Russia's 2014 actions in Crimea and its full-scale invasion of Ukraine beginning 24 February 2022. Following the invasion, the United States, the European Union and other Western governments introduced or significantly expanded sanctions covering the Russian president, other government members and Russian citizens generally, targeting financial institutions, trade and individuals. This is modeled as its own policy-subject entity, narrower than general sanctions policy, per ruling 721: a government's or party's position on sanctions naming a specific target jurisdiction is a position on the jurisdiction-specific subject, not a free-text field on a generic sanctions position.
